5 Foods To Boost Your Metabolism

September 29, 2021 in Food

Specific foods help increase metabolic rate, this is the number of calories that your body burns. If you’re trying to lose weight or maintain your weight, you might be looking for foods that can boost your metabolism.

Here are some examples of foods to consider:

1. Protein-Rich Foods
Protein makes you burn more calories due to the high thermic effect; it makes you burn more calories around the clock, including during sleep. It also reduces the drop in metabolism often seen during weight loss by helping your body hold on to its muscle mass. You can find this on meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, nuts, and seeds.

2. Coffee
Coffee contains several stimulants, most importantly caffeine where in this is the one that helps increase metabolic rate. It helps your body burn fat for energy and is effective at boosting your workout performance. It also makes you more alert.

3. Vitamin and Mineral-Rich Food
Some vitamins and minerals help keep the metabolism work effectively. While supplements can help, whole foods are the best source of vitamins and minerals. For example, those foods that contain B vitamins that are found in beans, egg, whole grains, potato, vitamin D that are found in sardines, tuna, salmon, fortified milk and yogurt, the magnesium found in nuts, seeds, legumes, leafy green vegetables, and iron found in lean meats, shellfish, beans, spinach.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar may increase your metabolism. It may help you lose weight by slowing stomach emptying and enhancing feelings of fullness. Intake of 1–2 tablespoons per day is recommended and dilute it in at least 1 cup of water per tablespoon of vinegar to prevent tooth erosion or damage to the lining of your digestive tract.

5. Tea
You may want to consider tea on your diet especially if you aim to lose fat since tea contains a flavonoid called catechins that may boost metabolism and help your body break down fats more quickly. Caffeine in many teas increases your energy use, causing your body to burn more calories. These two compounds work best together for any weight loss that may occur. An example of effective tea is oolong and matcha green tea where they increase fat oxidation and may help you burn extra calories when part of an exercise plan.
