Ramadan is a month of giving during which we should strive to do as many good deeds as possible. For many is also a time to give their zakah. and increase the amount of charity or sadaqah they perform. But giving doesn’t always need to be in the form of monetary donations, there are other ways to help those less fortunate.
Volunteering
You could register as a volunteer somewhere in your local area, tere are plenty of opportunities to get involved during the Holy Month. You could hand out meals with Feeding the Blues, you could spend a weekend at the Umm Al Qwain Dog Shelter taking the pups for a walk, you might even want to contact the Red Crescent and see if there is an opening you could fill.
Spread the word
There are so many different charity projects and fundraising efforts during Ramadan and while you may not be able to offer much financially yourself, you can help by spreading the word and encouraging others to give what they can. Make use of your social media and your contacts and inspire others to do something charitable this year.
Give away items
Ramadan is a perfect time to declutter your home and donate items that are still in good condition to a charity. Books can be given to schools or shelters where they can be sold to raise money. Clothes, shoes, toys and essentials can be sent abroad or simply to give to those in your life who you know are struggling. In this day and age, we are all in the habit of accumulating things we don’t need; by donating to charity, you get to help others, but you also find you will help yourself by detaching from material possessions.
This year we want to help you give back so we’ve teamed up with Tarahum Foundation to donate clothes to charity. All you have to do is fill the biodegradable bag tucked into your Kcal Extra delivery with clothes, pop it back in your chiller bag and leave it outside to be picked up as normal. We’ll take care of the rest!
