We all have those times when we are not feeling motivated. We are mentally and physically drained, and the last thing we want to do is get out of bed. It’s okay to feel unmotivated sometimes, but what makes you successful is to challenge those notions about what motivation is really about.
Here are some tactics to help you move forward and overcome any obstacle in your journey to achieve your goals:
Make a small commitment
It’s easier to finish a task than to start it in the beginning. Many people fail to achieve their goals since they choose overwhelming goals. Instead, start with small goals to build confidence and motive and thus put full efforts to achieve them.
For example, rather than aiming to do 10,000 steps in one day, start gradually till you reach it.
Schedule your motivation
This might sound funny, but setting a schedule will put your decision-making on autopilot by giving your goals time regardless of your motivation and energy. For instance, if your workout doesn’t have a time in your schedule, you will wake up thinking, “Am I motivated to workout today?” Hence, planning your day will create a pattern or routine that will anticipate a mindless way to initiate and stick to a behaviour.
Reward yourself
Success is not only reaching your end goal; you have to celebrate your small achievements. Treat yourself to a trip on the boat, a new workout outfit, or an outing with your best friends. However, don’t fall into the trap of choosing rewards that sabotage the goals you’ve achieved. For example, turning into a hellochef, ordering a pizza, and eating a cake.
Get influenced by others
Surrounding yourself with people that can push you is a great way to increase your output. Or you can just look around you for people that have the same mission and get inspired. Although this might be challenging to some but watching and listening to others talk about their goals and create their behaviours would motivate you and raise your sight.
Review your goals every morning and before bed
Sometimes life gets in our way, and we get distracted from accomplishing our goals. To stay focused and motivated, review your goals every morning and pick one task to work on. Then at night, write down your achievements and review the old ones.
In conclusion, life is a sum of a thousand battles and decisions to either give up or carry on. So, stop waiting for motivation to strike and set a schedule for your habits and tasks.
