Kcal Restaurant Launches ‘Clean Plate Friday’ to Reduce Food Waste in the UAE

Mar 7 . < 1 minute

Food waste is a growing problem, and you might not realise just how much it adds up. In the MENA region, each person wastes up to 250 kilograms of food per year, and in the UAE alone, food waste costs a staggering $3.5 billion annually, with the average person wasting around 197 kilograms (Chaitanya, 2022).

According to Khalid Al-Huraimal, CEO of the Emirati environmental management company Bee’ah, up to 38% of food is wasted in the UAE, and this figure rises to 60% during Ramadan.

How you can help

But here’s the good news—you can make a difference.

This Ramadan, Kcal Restaurants is launching ‘Clean Plate Friday’, a campaign designed to help you be more mindful of your food consumption while rewarding you for reducing waste. Starting March 14th, you can take part in this initiative at any Kcal Restaurant by following three simple steps:

  1. Order any Main, Bowl, or Salad
  2. Finish your meal with a clean plate
  3. Enjoy a free dessert as a reward

Every time you finish your plate, you contribute to a larger movement toward sustainability and responsible dining. It’s a small change that can make a big impact.

With Kcal restaurants located all across the UAE, it’s easy to get involved. So next time you dine out, make every bite count and join the movement—one clean plate at a time!
